The following tips will help you to become a
safe, savvy and secure e-mail user:
- Password tips
- Write down your e-mail password, and keep it in a safe place. Or better yet, try to memorize it.
- Change your password
frequently. This will ensure that your e-mail remains private.
- Please note
that passwords that use both letters and numbers are harder to
break.
- Do not share your password with
anyone ever.

- E-mail tips
- Delete all e-mails that seem
suspicious without opening.
- Never open attachments from unknown sources. They may contain
viruses that can damage your computer.
- Scan attachments with a virus program before downloading/executing them, even if
they come from a friend.
- Make sure that you
have the most recent version of your virus scanning program and
that your virus database is up-to-date.

- Spam Protection tips
- Don't spam people, you could get into trouble with your isp and have your account
terminated. More and more services have a no-spam tolerance.
- Avoid giving out your e-mail address to companies, unless
required for a certain purpose.
- If you post on bulletin boards, avoid posting with
your email address, unless required.
- Don't reply to unsolicited messages ("spam") mail, or other offensive
or harassing mail. By responding, you only confirm that you are a person with an active e-mail address who can be plagued with
more unwanted e-mails.
- Forward the unsolicited message to the customer service department of the source's e-mail (usually of a form similar to
abuse@[implicateddomain].com).
- To help control spam,
CaribSeek Mail provides its users with spam management tools and
"filters" for incoming mail. These can easily be set up to send certain messages
directly to your online trash can. In the Options section you
can set-up Block Filters and Bulk Mail Handling for you incoming
mail.

a public terminal, at an internet cafe for example, it is
advised that you close the browser you were using when you are
ready to end your Internet session.
- Always use a
secure network.
- Although the risk
is small, use caution when on any unfamiliar network.
- Use stations
maintained by sources you trust, or ask if the Internet terminal
